International law, also known as public international law and law of nations, is the set of rules, norms and principles that aim to regulate mainly the relations between States. It provides normative guidelines and a common conceptual framework to guide states across a broad range of areas, including the law of sea, international criminal law and humanitarian law. Some of the sources of public international law can be found in the international conventions, such as the European Convention on Human Rights, agreements, treaties, article 38(1) of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, international customs and etc. However, it should not be confused with private international law, which is primarily focused on the conflict of laws and determination of which jurisdiction is applicable to the dispute.
